The new European Partnership for Personalised Medicine (EP PerMed) was officially launched on 5 October 2023 at a high-level conference on Personalised Medicine in Valencia. Under the banner of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the conference focused on the influence of Personalised Medicine in the evolution of healthcare for improving people’s lives. The Partnership kick-off is a boost to research in precision medicine across the European Research Area, with 49 partners participating in its development. It will promote all areas and disciplines of precision medicine, facilitate innovation and transfer, as well as encourage its consolidation in health systems, allowing continuous improvement.
In this regard, Irene Norstedt, Director of the People Directorate at the European Commission’s DG Research and Innovation, said:
“I am very excited about this partnership. We are witnessing that many of the dreams we have about the future of medicine can now turn into reality. With the vast amount of data being gathered and constantly improving IT tools we have now the opportunity to utilise a lot more of the outstanding results coming from the research and innovation projects. The partnership is in a pole position to steer the way for introduction of the results of the ongoing scientific work into medical practice.”
To carry out its actions in the coming years, the partnership will count on the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for Personalised Medicine, developed in collaboration with the European Commission.
